Gateway to Central Government Communication
Press Information Bureau (PIB) is the nodal agency of the Government of India to disseminate information to the print, electronic and new media on government plans, policies, programme initiatives and achievements. It is also the Government's nodal agency to facilitate private media.
Authenticity
PIB is the authorized channel of the Government for information dissemination
National Wide Network
Set up in 1919 as a small Cell, the Press Information Bureau has now grown into a nationwide network of eight Regional Offices and 34 Branch Offices.
Wide Reach
Information material released in English, Hindi, Urdu, Marathi, Gujarati, Sindhi, Kashmiri, Punjabi, Bengali, Nepali, Assamese, Oriya, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam.
Mode of Information Dissemination
PIB disseminates information through different modes of communication, such as Press Releases, Press Notes, Feature Articles, Backgrounders, Press Briefings, Photographs, Press Conferences, Interviews, Database available on Bureau's website, Press tours, etc. The information material released in English, Hindi, Urdu and 13 other regional languages reaches about 8,400 newspapers and media organizations.
Modern Means of Communication
For faster dissemination and wider reach, PIB uses modern means of communication like e-releases, dispatch of information through e-mail, tele-conferening, video conferencing etc, besides conventional means of fax and hand delivery.IB disseminates information through different modes of communication, such as Press Releases, Press Notes, Feature Articles, Backgrounders, Press Briefings, Photographs, Press Conferences, Interviews, Database available on Bureau's website, Press tours, etc. The information material released in English, Hindi, Urdu and 13 other regional languages reaches about 8,400 newspapers and media organizations.
Media Feedback
Functioning as an interface between the Government and the media, PIB also provides feedback to the Government with people's reactions as reflected in the media.

PIB Port Blair
PIB Port Blair functions as part of the PIB Eastern stern Region with headquarters at Kolkata.
It is headed by Assistant Director (Media & Commun ication). The Present Head of the PIB is Shri A DHANASEKARAN, an Indian Information Service officer.
Information Services
PIB Port Blair offers info-media services in English, Hindi and Bengali.The PIB office issues news releases about important Central Government programmes and policies to print, electronic and new media operating in Maharashtra, besides feature on important current topics. It also releases important features released by PIB headquarters in different languages.
PIB Features Unit releases News Features on topical issues for the local media. In the aftermath of Tsunami, an exclusive website has been designed by NIC for the PIB Port Blair. But, owing to certain unavoidable circumstances, it is not made operational.
Media Management
PIB Port Blair coordinates media activities of Central Government and Central Government funded institutions located in the islands. The activities include coordination of press meets, press tours, clipping service and media feedback. The PIB Officer also renders coordination to organize Inter Media Publicity Coordination Committee constituted by the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, which consists of members from different Central Media Units, Central as well as UT government departments / organisations.
