Present Status Report on Clinical Research Unit for Homoeopathy, Port Blair
Clinical Research Unit for Homoeopathy, Port Blair is one of the oldest Research Unit in India under Central Council Research for Homoeopathy, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Dept. of AYUSH, Govt. of India for carrying out research and treatment in the field of homoeopathic system of medicine. This Unit is located at Port Blair, South Andaman district, Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Patients from different parts of the Islands are attending the Unit for treatment. Daily attendance of OPD Patients is 50-60.
Extension Centres: Three extension centres are functioning at Community Health Centre Diglipur, Primary Health Centre Tushnabad and G.B Pant Hospital, Port Blair for the project- A single-blind, open randomized, and placebo-controlled trial of add-on homoeopathic therapy in patients of severe leptospirosis on conventional care.
Mother & Child Care Clinic: As a part of the National Campaign for ‘Healthy Mother and Happy Child’ the Unit is conducting special OPD for pregnant & lactating mothers and Children. The Mother and Child project started on 15/05/2009. The Unit is running OPD on every Tuesdays and fridays. The mother and child clinic gives special emphasis for antenatal, postnatal mother’s and children below 12 years of age. The Unit has conducted 24 free medical camps and community awareness programmes under the National Campaign for Mother and Child Care during the year 2009-2010 at different parts of the Islands.
Rheumatology Clinic: The Unit is conducting special OPD every Wednesdays from April 2013.
Epidemics: The Unit has distributed preventive medicines for chikungunya and influenza like illness in the year 2007 and 2009 respectively.

Up gradation |
The Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy is considering to upgrade this Clinical Research Unit for Homoeopathy as Regional Research Institute for Homoeopathy. Already approached to A & N Administration for alloting free land to construct our own building. |

• Leptospirosis(RCT) in association with Directorate of Health Services, Andaman Nicobar Islands and Regional Medical Research Centre (ICMR) Port Blair.
• The Pilot Study on Leptospirosis was conducted at Diglipur and Mayabunder in association with Directorate of Health Services, Andaman Nicobar Islands.
• With Regional Medical Research Centre (ICMR) Port Blair: In vitro study on Leptospirosis.

A regular pharmacist and Data entry operator is very much essential for the smooth functioning of the unit.A well equiped laboratory is very much essential for conducting research programmes as well as general OPD’s. |
